Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Why do you choose to "mill rice only after an order is placed"? How is this different from packaged rice sold in supermarkets?
We firmly believe that, just like fruits and vegetables, the freshness of rice determines its deliciousness.
Rice from big box stores is usually milled in large quantities and stored for a long time, causing moisture and aroma to diminish over time. We, however, insist on "milling only after receiving an order." Our brown rice is transported from Japan to Taiwan in temperature- and humidity-controlled cold storage. Only upon receiving your order do we freshly mill it according to your needs. This perfectly locks in the plump moisture and natural aroma of the rice, allowing you to enjoy the freshest, safest, and most delicious high-quality Japanese rice right at home.
Q2. What is milling degree?
Since the rice is freshly milled just before shipping, you can choose the milling degree, which is also our family's biggest feature.
From health to taste, you define the ratio!
Q3. How do I choose rice?
You can choose the rice variety that suits you based on the flavor radar chart!
Q4. How should rice be stored after receiving it? How long can it be stored?
Taiwan has a relatively humid climate. To maintain the best flavor and prevent rice weevils, we strongly recommend that you:
- Best Storage Method: Upon receipt, please seal and place directly in the refrigerator (4°C~8°C).
- Best Before Date: Unopened and unrefrigerated (non-vacuum-sealed) rice can be stored for approximately 2-3 months; unopened and refrigerated (vacuum-sealed) rice can be stored for approximately one year. However, because our rice is very fresh and has high moisture content, it is recommended to consume it within 3-4 weeks after opening to enjoy the best texture.
Q5. If rice weevils appear, can the rice still be eaten?
Please don't worry! Our rice is strictly controlled during cultivation and packaging, with no excessive chemical sprays. It is a natural phenomenon if rice weevils hatch at room temperature.
- How to deal with it: If there are not many, you can still cook and eat the rice normally after washing it thoroughly and picking out the weevils, as it is harmless to humans. However, if the rice grains are severely broken or blackened, it is recommended not to eat them.
Q6. When cooking rice, what is the ideal water-to-rice ratio?
Freshly milled rice: Since freshly milled rice has a very high moisture content, we recommend a water-to-rice ratio of 1:1 or 1:1.05. This will result in very chewy rice that is not easily overcooked.
Q7. Do I need to soak it before cooking? How long should I soak it for?
Absolutely essential! Soaking allows the core of the rice grains to absorb water evenly, resulting in translucent rice with no hard center.
- White rice: Soak for 20-30 minutes when the weather is warm, and 45 minutes during colder autumn/winter months.
- Brown rice: It is recommended to soak for at least 1-2 hours (or use warm water) for a softer, more palatable texture.
Q8. How do I cook multi-grain rice?
Q9. How do I cook barley groats?
Q10. What packaging specifications do you offer?
To suit different households and usage scenarios, we offer various specifications:
- 1 kg / 2 kg packs: Ideal for singles, small families, or customers who want to try different rice varieties, ensuring consumption within the freshness period.
- 5 kg pack: Suitable for medium to large families who cook daily, offering an economical and practical option.
Q11. We are a restaurant/business. Do you offer bulk packaging, custom specifications, or wholesale prices?
Yes, we welcome long-term partnerships with food service clients! Whether you operate a Japanese restaurant, donburi specialist, high-end yakiniku, or any type of Chinese or Western restaurant, we can recommend a suitable single-variety rice based on your culinary needs (e.g., individual grains or chewy texture even when cold). We also offer large bulk packaging for commercial use. Based on your estimated monthly usage and delivery frequency, we will provide you with a personalized B2B wholesale quote. Please contact our food service sales team through the "Corporate Orders" page, and a dedicated representative will assist you.
Q12. I want to buy gifts for others. Can I send them to separate addresses?
Yes, but each additional address will incur an additional shipping fee. If you have this need, please contact customer service to inquire first!
